More than Turkey Day with endless football games, Thanksgiving is a day to be dedicated to Almighty God for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above all for his inestimable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ. This is an occasion worth celebrating, and I invite you to celebrate with us at Oceanside United Reformed Church.
Last Thanksgiving I preached on the ten lepers Jesus healed in Luke 17:11–19 (“How to Grow in Thankfulness”). Ten were healed. Only one turned back to thank Jesus. The thankless heart is a forgetful heart. The thankful heart is a remembering heart. That is why Oceanside URC begins the holiday in worship: before you enjoy any gift today, thank the Giver.
Our Thanksgiving Day service is simple and festive. It’s full of singing psalms and hymns, Scripture readings, time for individuals to pray aloud their thanks, and a message. It begins at 10 a.m. and runs about an hour. Following the service, there is a Thanksgiving meal in our home, especially for those without family in the area, those passing through, or those in need of a loving home to spend the day.
Directions, what to expect, and the RSVP form are on the church’s Thanksgiving page. Let us know you’re coming, and we’ll give you a free copy of Welcome to a Reformed Church: A Guide for Pilgrims. Our doors, arms, and hearts are open to you!
