Invite Daniel R. Hyde to Speak
I consider it an honor and privilege to be asked to speak outside of my local church family. In Paul’s words, doing so not only allows me “to impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you” but “that we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine” (Rom. 1:11–12). As I’ve been saying o this site, theology must become biography!
Whether you are in need of a seminary lecturer (see my Curriculum Vitae) or planning a conference, a retreat, officer training, or simply need a pulpit filled on the Lord’s Day, I would be glad to hear from you.
What I Like to Speak On
The Three Forms of Unity. The Heidelberg Catechism, Belgic Confession, and Canons of Dort: what they say, why they were written, and why they still matter for Reformed churches today. I have taught seminary courses on all three, written full-length expositions of the Belgic & Canons, and have spoken at conferences on the Canons here and here.
Reformed Worship and Liturgy. Why Reformed churches worship as they do, how historic liturgy is shaped by Scripture, and what recovering it looks like in a congregation now. I’ve taught seminary courses on worship and this is also the subject of several of my books and many of my academic articles.
John Owen and Puritan Theology. My academic specialty. My doctoral research at “The VU”—Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam—examined Owen’s theology of public worship, and I am glad to bring the Puritans to a congregation without requiring anyone to read seventeenth-century English!
The Presence of God. Drawn from my 2026 book — what Scripture teaches about the God who draws near, and what it means to live before His face.
Preaching and Pastoral Ministry. Expository preaching, the pastor’s own soul, and the ordinary work of shepherding a congregation over decades rather than years.
Church Planting. I planted Oceanside United Reformed Church in 2000 and have pastored it ever since. I’ve taught seminary courses on church planting and one of the books I edited is on it as well. I am happy to talk candidly about what that actually took.
Anything from my books. If a subject in one of my books fits your event, ask — I have almost certainly spoken on it.

Availability and Practical Details
My first calling is to my congregation. My consistory graciously gives me time to serve churches beyond Oceanside, but that time is finite — so the earlier you ask, the more likely I can say yes.
Lead time. Six months or more is ideal for conferences and multi-session events. Pulpit supply can often be arranged more quickly.
Travel. I am based in Oceanside, California, near San Diego, and travel throughout North America. I have also taught internationally, including in Europe and Latin America, and international invitations are welcome.
Honorarium and expenses. I do not have a “fee.” Travel and lodging are typically covered and honorarium is up to you. Budget has never been the reason I have turned down an invitation.
